Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[68Ga]Ga-RCC78 is an investigational, gallium-68-labeled cyclic peptide PET radiotracer designed for the precision diagnosis and staging of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). It targets carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX), a cell-surface protein that is constitutively overexpressed in ccRCC due to VHL gene mutations. Developed by researchers at Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China, [68Ga]Ga-RCC78 consists of a CAIX-specific cyclic peptide (RCC78) conjugated to the positron-emitting radionuclide gallium-68. In early clinical evaluations, the tracer demonstrated high and sustained tumor accumulation with rapid background clearance, providing superior tumor-to-background contrast and enabling the detection of metastatic lesions that are often missed by standard imaging modalities like [18F]FDG.
